1. Who is Phaethon’s mother?

7. How were the deserts made, according to this myth?

8. Explain the words written on Phaethon’s tomb.

9. Describe Phaethon’s character.

10. What is the underlying theme of this myth?

11. Is Phaethon’s fearlessness heroic or foolish?

12. What qualities of a hero does Phaethon have? What heroic qualities does he lack?

II. Literary Elements

Personification- giving non-living things the characteristics of life. Explain the following examples
1. “It is said that it was then the Nile fled and hid his head, which is still hidden

Week of May 3rd 2010

This week in class we will be finishing up our study of poetry by making poetry books. Pre-AP classes will be writing a book about their 7th grade experiences and general will be writing various forms of poetry such as Haiku, and Limerick.

We will also spend a great deal of time on SOL review, and we will have a last minute "crash course" in test taking skills.

This year has gone by so quickly it's hard to believe that we are already on the downward slope. If you would like to spend some online time practicing for various tests, don't forget to check out the link below.

We are getting really close to SOL time!!!!! We have finished our unit on propaganda, and the Novel Tuck Everlasting.
